Gallbladder Surgery
Gallstones are a common condition affecting up to 1/10 Australians. In many people they may be asymptomatic, but in others – they can cause upper abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. If you have symptoms, you may benefit from having your gallbladder removed. Dr Saks performs this as a laparoscopic (keyhole) procedure.
Most gallstones appear when the amounts of bile, cholesterol and other fluids in the gallbladder become unbalanced and that fluid solidifies. The stones then cause problems when they block the free flow of bile into the intestines. The gallbladder stores bile that the liver produces, thus it can safely be removed, without causing problems to bile production and flow.
