Hernia Surgery

Hernia surgery Dr Dina Saks General surgeon East Sydney.

What is a hernia?

A hernia occurs when an organ or tissue pushes through a weakened spot in the surrounding muscle or connective tissue. Hernias can occur in various parts of the body, but they most commonly occur in the abdominal wall. The most common types of hernias are inguinal hernias, which occur in the groin area. It is also common to have small hernias around the umbilicus.

Symptoms of hernias can include a noticeable bulge, pain or discomfort, and weakness or pressure in the affected area. Hernias can be diagnosed through physical examination, or imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT or MRI.

In some cases, small hernias may just be observed, however there is a risk that leaving them may lead to serious complications. Dr Saks can discuss these risks with you, and the most appropriate way to fix the hernia.
