Your Appointment
What to expect at your initial appointment
Doctors’ appointments, and particularly melanoma appointments can be a stressful and anxious period for many patients. Dr Saks encourages you to bring a family member or close friend to the initial appointment, as a lot of information will be covered at this time. It helps to have a second set of ears retain some of the information and allows them the chance to address any concerns.
Your initial appointment will be an opportunity to find out about yourself and your background, such that the treatment plan can be tailored to your needs.
Dr Saks will perform a careful examination of at that time. We will then discuss your diagnosis and develop a management plan for your treatment.
Not all patients require further surgery, and careful surveillance is all that is required. Some may need a procedure that can be done in rooms, some patients may require an operation under general anaesthetic. This will all be discussed at your first appointment.
